Hi All,
Having only recently joined this forum and have recognised it as an extremely good introduction to learning the basics associated with building electronics kits, I felt I needed to encourage more of the visitors to the site and the forum to register as a member and build their own decoders.
Given the growing interest in DCC and cost of decoders these days I personally saw it as an opportunity to save a considerable amount of money as I have some 35-40 locos I want to convert to DCC at the same time learning and achieving the self satisfaction of being able to do it myself.
In the short time I have been here, Paul has been extremely helpful in assisting me, both on and off the forum with my requests for information and help.
I profess to know very little about electronics and every thing I do know has come about by having a go and seeking support from people who like Paul, who so freely are prepared to share their knowledge and time.
There is a never ending supply on the internet, of simple through to intermediate level electronic projects specifically for model railroaders which can save considerable costs over purchasing heavily marked up retail products. I personally have found that as I complete one project successfully, I am looking for something a little more challenging.
The other benefit is that almost all of the electrical projects associated with model railways are in the low voltage category and a licence is not required.
My experience to date has resulted in my gaining sufficient knowledge for me to actually assemble and sell a few not so readily available model railway items on eBay which assists in funding the building of my layout.
I encourage all visitors to the site to consider registering as a member, supporting Paul by having a go at making these reasonably straight forward kits and experience the joy and satisfaction that I have achieved to date.
Regards
John
