Hello, I know I would have to change the firmware, but is any extra hardware needed to make this decoder respond to an asymmetrical DCC signal? If so does lots need to be added?

Hi Dreustofr
As long as you use a PIC12F675 or PIC16F676 processor there is all the hardware you need built in and you just need to use the built in A-D converter to read the voltages on the two rail input pins (6 and 7 on 8-pin PICs or 12 and 13 on 14-pin).
