I have a 3 function decoder installed in a coach running tail lamps and coach lighting. Pickups are on both ends of coach and a large stay alive cap is installed. The problem is I still get light flickering when running over dead frogs. Anyone got a fix pse. Eddy

the obvious fix is live frogs, and if the pickups are working at both ends there should be no loss of power on the frogs.
That said if you are using LED lighting running at 5V (use the low power output version of the decoder) there should be no flicker with a 5V stay alive supercap on the 5V supply and the lights should stay on for several minutes. Even using a small value 6V aluminium electrolytic you should have zero flicker.

I am too far in to the layout to change frogs (perhaps next time)! I am using 5v outputs and a 16v 22000uf cap but the main lights dim when a bad section is hit. I have changed the wheel wipers for axle spring pickups which has made a big difference. Perhaps I am being to picky ??

It should work. You will get quite a bit more capacitance in if you get a 6V capacitor instead, or you can go for a 35V capacitor instead and put it across the bridge rectifier. Hard to know which will be the best approach really. Going the low voltage way is probably only the best way if you are using a supercap.
